Acupuncture works based off the concept of balancing the energetics of the body. When there is an imbalance with your body’s energy or as known in Chinese medicine the “Qi”, various illnesses can ensue. An acupuncture treatment is based off of assessing the patient’s flow and disturbance of energy along with your symptoms you present with.

Treatment consists of using fine needles inserted into specific points called “acupoints” along the different meridians that run along the body. Here at Desert Health Specialists acupuncture treatments last anywhere from 20-30 minutes with more then one session usually recommended.

What is Cupping?

Cupping is a Chinese Medicine therapy in which heated glass cups are applied to the skin along the meridians of the body, creating suction as a way of stimulating the flow of energy. Cupping therapy can reduce pain and inflammation throughout the body. And they say it can promote mental and physical relaxation and well-being. it does this by increasing blow flow to the area of pain. There are numerous methods by which cupping may be administered, but at Desert Health Specialists we only use 2 different techniques.

  • Stationary Cupping.
    • The cups are placed on a selected area of your body and then left in place without being moved.
  • Moving Cupping:
    • As the name implies, in this method we applies massage oil or cream on your skin in selected places, puts the cups over the areas to be treated and then slides them around that region of the body — most commonly the back. The cups slide easily because the cream has lubricated your body.

Typical cupping treatments are combined with acupuncture treatments to get the best results
